Why can't people just tell you?

So....I had an art class this morning, and it was interesting. We were supposed to draw our first nude model today since last weeks class was cancelled with snow......so this was to be our first experience with the 'undraped' model. But she didn't show up! So I have now NOT been exposed, twice! Its great. Our prof ended up nabbing one of the art department assistants to come and pose for us dressed....and he was just hilarious.

We were working with different types of charcoal, and going from newsprint to drawing paper. It was the first art class I have enjoyed so far. We did 20 second drawings...where the model would hold a pose for 20 seconds, we would have to sketch out the action in the same amount of time, then he would switch and we would start the next one. We started with about 12 of those, then we moved to a few 1 min, then 2min, then 3 min, then 20 min, then 50min drawings.

I think I enjoy working more with pencils and charcoals then I do paints....perhaps because I have less control over a paintbrush. Maybe.

You get really dirty when you work with charcoals though, so I made sure that I asked the girl beside me whether or not I had any on my face, etc. Nope. I was clean.

Somehow, between asking her that, washing my hands and putting my supplies away.....something happened. I don't recall doing it.

I walked all through the classroom, down the long hallway with all my stuff, deciding that a bathroom break was needed etc. I thought people were looking at all my stuff with weird looks, but no, of course not. I don't always look in the mirror when I'm in a bathroom, especially if my arms are full of stuff while I am trying not to set them down on the nasty floor and wash my hands at the same time. I did look in the mirror this time though and I did one of those movie double takes at myself.

I had a huge black charcoal streak above my right eyebrow and below the rim of my toque. (sp?) I don't mean grey, I mean BLACK, and about an inch and a half long and half an inch thick. A big streak. Yet all the way down the hallway no one said anything! I would have told someone if they had a mark like that on their face!

The funny thing is, is that I ran into the girl I had asked; when I was in the bathroom, had just noticed it and was about to clean it off. Her reaction was quite genuine, as she asked how the heck I had managed to do that. It hadn't been there when I'd asked.

Welcome to my world.
