Gramps and Granny

I have been blessed by always having a close relationship with my mom's parents because we have almost always lived in the same place. I have so many memories from Edmonton and a lot of them have my grandparents in them.

I remember.....the many bbq's, the Stettler (did I spell that right?) train, the sweet May long weekends with the parents gone at Barnabas and just us 3 girls and G & G, the Easter hunt, playing catch ("Nice miss!" - Gramps would always say to encourage us), playing volleyball, making music, blasting 'Vehnie, vehnie-si-mo...', I still don't say or spell it right! I remember.....that halloween evening always ended at your house and us cousins would trade and barter for goods. I remember sitting on your couch and reading for hours completely content, and the times we would stay so late that we would fall asleep and be picked up and carried to the car. What about when we would make the trek on our bikes from our house to yours? What else? Lots more. I remember.....the meals at your house were feasts to the eye and stomach, the air show was soo much fun even though it rained, the symphonies were fabulous and unforgettable, your dog Missy was such a sweetheart, your attendance at our many performances was noticed and made us feel loved and special, you took an interest in our lives and got involved in places we loved (Barnabas)and contributed your talents there as well.

Now we all live in Abbotsford or Mission.....yet again close. Perfect. I may not get out to see you that often but I still think of you and smile. We have more conversations now, and play games that are a riot, we talk about things that matter and you have wise, researched and thought out answers for our questions. You both have such a sense of humor.....grammy don't forget about Winnie the Shit, I know I won't, and gramps I love all those gut-cracking e-mails that you get....do you have any new ones?

I also remember the cancer that you had 2 years ago gramps, and the shock to the system that that was for me. I know that hips are causing problems, arthritis is acting up, knees aren't what they used to be, and as of 2 days ago the cancer is back.......but I don't think of you two that way. You never get older to me, if anything, you get even more lively. I love you.

Anyone that hasn't met my grandparents is missing out, cause I know those that have met them, think they are pretty great. Like I do.

So true so true. Well put. Jess, did they read that? You should really make sure that they do.

Having grandparents close by is great, and so is having great grandparents. Sorry to hear about your grandpa's cancer coming back. I'll pray for him...

I concur with that final statement - I met your grandparents on Father's Day last summer at your aunt's house. And I quickly realized that they really are great! What a blessing!
