Cookies and Saints

These are two things that I have on my mind recently. I've been chatting with a friend about Orthodoxy, which is something that I have to admit, that I know little about. It is an interesting topic for me because I have a few stereotypes in my mind that are kind of being dispelled with our discussions. These stereotypes concerning icons, saints etc., I was not even fully aware that I had them, until I was forced to think about it. Discussion is good.
Then there's cookies. A couple girl friends and I made over a hundred (or a bazillion, as one of them referred to it) cookies last night. Sugar cookies and gingerbread....and we even decorated them! Christmas is coming!
Anyone want a cookie?

I went to an E. Orthodox service last year at the monastery in Mission (well Dewdney technically). This is not to be confused with Westminster Abbey (RC).

Apart from standing for 2 hours, it was interesting. At that point in time, I also had my judgments, and was actually a little agitated from time to time. Two things of irk were that the chief priest of the BC area was there and was dressed like a king, complete with crown and sceptre. The second thing was the icons. There was a parade of icons (it was a special event Sunday), and some people would lie down on the ground and the icons would be passed over them so they could recieve the blessing from it.

Since then I've changed a lot of my thinking regarding Orthodoxy, Catholocism, and all the other streams of this river. I used to be so negative, but an open mind can produce some very good things!
